Located along the northern reaches of the Chesapeake Bay, the Harford Soil Conservation District serves a diverse area extending from the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in the south, through the burgeoning I-95 corridor, to a concentrated farming community in the north.

Developing Soil Conservation and Water Quality Plans (SCWQPs) for county farms–with special emphasis on the Deer Creek Priority Watershed–is a key function of the district’s technical staff. The district aims to develop a plan for each of the county’s more than 500 farming operations.

The Maryland Agricultural Water Quality Cost-Share (MACS):
The Maryland Agricultural Water Quality Cost-Share (MACS) Program provides farmers with grants to cover up to 87.5 percent of the cost to install conservation measures known as best management practices on their farms to prevent soil erosion, manage nutrients and safeguard water quality in streams, rivers and the Chesapeake Bay.
