SOIL CONSERVATION PLANS
Developing Soil Conservation and Water Quality Plans (SCWQPs) for county farms–with special emphasis on the Deer Creek Priority Watershed–is a key function of the district’s technical staff. The district aims to develop a plan for each of the county’s more than 500 farming operations.

Maryland’s Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP):
CREP is a federal-state partnership program that pays top dollar to farmers who agree to take environmentally sensitive cropland and pastureland out of production for 10 to 15 years and install best management practices to protect local streams and create wildlife habitat.
Maryland’s Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP):
Maryland’s Conservation Buffer Initiative offers attractive incentive payments to plant trees next to streams, easy sign-up, and a full range of management options for farmers who want to improve the health of local streams and the Chesapeake Bay. These payments are on top of the $4,000 or $4,500 per acre that you will receive to install the buffer.
