Cover Crop Program

MDA COVER CROP PROGRAM

Maryland Department of Agriculture’s “Cover Crop” program provides cost-share payments for cooperating farmers/landowners who plant 10.0 acres or more of winter cover crops (e.g., cereal grain,  grain/legume mix, etc.) between August – November, on croplands within the State of Maryland.  Planting cover crops are an excellent means to improve soil health (e.g., organic matter), absorb and control nutrient runoff, and provide ground cover through the winter months, which helps reduce erosion potential.  Sign up periods may run from June – July at your local soil conservation district office.  For more information, please click the button below.
